Chapter 2: Quin

"You are such a slacker."
Quin waved Noa's face away from hers and peered past a couple of bookshelves at a girl on the couch. "I wonder who that is. Let's go find out, c'mon."
"No, Quin!" Isabel pulled her back by the collar of her jacket. "She doesn't look like she wants to be bothered." Quin settled for staring quietly at the girl as Isabel read summaries of books.
"Stop staring," Noa complained in a whisper.
"Get your snout out of my ear."
"You have no common sense or social perception." Noa hissed.
"And you don't have any fingers," Quincy replied, continuing to stare relentlessly at the new girl.
"I-what?" the giraffe spluttered, confused. He shook it off and nudged Quin back to Isabel. "Help her find a book."
Quin regarded her friend for a moment, before turning on her heel and ambling over to the girl on the couch, Noa lolloping reluctantly along behind her.
"Hello, I'm Quin," Quin announced as she neared the girl. She offered her hand. The girl hesitated, and shook it.
"I'm Kimber," she said carefully. Quincy let herself fall on the couch beside her, a somewhat dozed expression on her face.
"What're you reading?" Quin asked casually, leaning over. Then she looked up. "Where did Isabel go?"
"She ran off," Noa answered dully. He looked back to see if Olin was still there. Olin and Isabel had always been on the rocks. Noa shifted worriedly from hoof to hoof.
