"Huh? Oh. One." Kimber rested her head on one hand. The teacher appeared annoyed.
"Eh? One?" he grabbed a calculator off his desk and punched the buttons with his chubby fingers. "Sine...90...oh." he muttered to himself. Mr. Connol looked back at Kimber. "It would appear that you are correct." he said, frowning. Skaene looked up at her in boredom.
After class, Kimber and Skaene followed the large flow of students and daemons. Eventually they were led to the cafeteria. Kimber looked aorund trying to spot someone semi-nice to eat with. Finding no one at the moment, she walked to the library. Therem she ate her sandwich and read. Skaene curled up as an ermine around her neck. That became their routine during the lunch period for the next couple of days.
Kimber ripped a piece of her sandwich off and fed it to Skaene. She turned a page of her book and sighed. "Oh. Well that was a terrible ending." She set her sandwich on the chair and went to the shelves to find another book. She was leaning against the JOH-KIE shelf reading the summary of a thin novel when she spotted two girls looking directly at her. She was tempted to glare at them, but instead slid the book back into the empty slot in the row of books and pulled out another one. Not caring whether it was a good book or even caring to skim the summary, she checked it out and returned to her corner with a couch and a big fake plant. She sighed and went back to eating her lunch. Skaene looked at the book she had set in her lap. His eyes widened.
"Did you look at this book at all before you checked it out?" he asked. Kimber merely looked at him and briefly shook her head.
"I just wanted to stop being the target for the stares of those two girls over there." she gestures over to them with a nod of her head. Skaene whispered something.
What?
-Uh...they're kinda making their way over here.
Great.
Kimber looked up and sure enough they were heading their way. She grabbed the book, opened it to the middle and pretended to be completely absorbed. Her free hand stroked Skaene's back as he curled up on the arm of the couch. The two girls kept walking and eventually stopped in front of the couch.
Oh. Crap.
-You can say that again.
